As a BMR owner at 1850 El Camino Real (Villa Bella), I have been displaced since the City red-tagged our building on Feb 28 due to structural failures. It is deeply ironic that the Council is voting tonight on a vision for 4,400 new units along El Camino Real while an existing affordable housing project on this exact corridor sits abandoned and unsafe. I ask the City to focus on enforcing code compliance at our site and supporting the impacted BMR homeowners.

Ultimately 'Results' trump 'Vision,' e.g., one hopes retail establishments are valued by locals so the envisioned walkability occurs. Today the further east one travels on ECR, the less vibrant it is, despite years of "mixed use" development. And "mitigations" for increased density involve 1) construction/appliance reg.s or a vague promise to 2) reduce vehicle miles traveled with no realistic plan luring people out of cars. Bike lanes remain empty; people must still commute. Needed: NEW ideas.
