Here's a simple start for acting in solidarity rather than just talking about solidarity: Hire people. Just hire them. Of course I'm talking about African-Americans, but also Hispanics and other less represented citizens of Santa Clara. Don't compare tiny pieces of resumes to other resumes. If an African-American has credentials, just hire him or her. Without hiring people, all of the talking in the world means zip.

The essence of racism and discrimination is embedded in the fabrication of American society. It's apart of our daily lives even if we cannot see it. To say it does not exist in the city of Santa Clara would be asinine. As an African-American resident of this city for the past 7 years, I have faced microaggressions in this city for what I've perceived is due to the color of my skin. Even the smallest act of racism whether consciously or unconsciously perpetrated cannot be tolerated.
