3. 20-642 Authorize the Negotiation and Execution of a Third Amendment to the Exclusive Negotiations Agreement with Republic Metropolitan LLC for the site located at 500 Benton Street [APN: 230-08-078] [Council Pillar: Promote and Enhance Economic, Housing and Transportation Development]
I'm a registered voter in District 4, and a member of the Downtown Community Task Force. This is the first time I have seen Rep Met's plans for the 500 Benton Street development, and I have to say I am really disappointed. Franklin Street factors into the plans for the New Downtown, serving as the entrance to Santa Clara from the transit station, yet the plans have all of the uninviting features of the complex (such as transformers) facing Franklin. This plan was wrongly developed in a vacuum.
I oppose renewing this ENA with Republic Metropolitan. Re/Met has shown time and time again that they are unwilling to incorporate the community’s feedback and concerns as to the nature of this project. This project uses public land to build exclusionary housing and a medical center for SCU, a private university. Re/Met has shown they are an inappropriate partner to lead a project which affects historic resources listed,& eligible for listing on the NRHP
