It's essential to relocate the County Courthouse, to enable the full six city-owned blocks to be redeveloped as a whole. We want a cohesive downtown redevelopment, starting with the six blocks which will become available once the leases come due in 2022. If the courthouse remains "as is," it will block the re-connection of Main St., which is essential to reestablishing the downtown area on the original grid.

I oppose wasting everybody's time on this odd effort. Though I support the idea of recreating a downtown for the City -and I'm listed as a supporter- I fail to see how removing the County Courthouse enhances the area. Funnily enough no one is demanding that the U.S. Post Office move. Both the Post Office and the Courthouse offer necessary governmental services and I would think that the City of Santa Clara would want to keep them both.
