Artificial turf (AT) is a polluting polypropylene, polyethylene plastic material shown to produce methane gas when exposed to sunlight (t.ly/8fKai). Neither humans nor dogs should be exposed to AT. The surface material for the dog park is not stated. It should be low plants or perhaps crushed granite. At Reed dog park on an 86°F day, the artificial turf surface temperature was 50°F hotter. Dogs stayed on the sidewalk and crushed granite which were cooler than the plastic AT by 15° to 40°F.
