7. 22-721 Approval of a Status Report on the Lease Agreement Between the City of Santa Clara and the Police Activities League (PAL) for the Operation of a BMX Track
USA BMX is the gold standard. If we're going to support a track in our community then let's support to the fullest extent possible and have it properly sanctioned and ensure that this is a service that we continue to support going forward.
Not moving the lease away from PAL means that the track will be unsanctioned. This is detrimental to ridership and is not in the best interest of riders, parents, community and other programs that the revenue from the track, when full sanctioned, funds. I urge you to reconsider this move. Accepting the terms set forth by USA BMX is the only viable option. Stop hurting our children. Move the lease.
I am concerned that the report takes no consideration for the kids' ability to race and compete under USA BMX sanction. A track in our urban area is a rarity and affords Santa Clara city (and county) children a special national sport in which to compete. The city should more strongly consider the proposal to allow usabmx to operate the track as a sanctioned track, remove PAL involvement, and turn attention toward locating a replacement site before the Related development closes the track.
To take away youth sports would be a shame children are already losing sports and school sports teach children a lot of good characteristics as they grow into adults such as teamwork leader ship responsibility to take this away would be a crime a lot of families rely on the sports and the support that they get from the community and the PAL office.
Move the lease away from PAL. We need a USA BMX sanctioned race track, NOT a practice track. This is against the interests of the local BMX community.
We have no use or need for a practice track. What is needed is a USA BMX sanctioned track! Please move the lease away from PAL so this can happen!
