4.E 22-225 Action on an Agreement Between the Santa Clara Unified School District and the City of Santa Clara Pertaining to the Operation, Maintenance and Improvement for Public Recreational Purposes of Buildings and Open Space Areas at Cabrillo Middle School
To this day I still have connections with staff that I made growing up. Wonderful people and wonderful organization, the YAC is a role model after-school program for the youth. It is both a fun and safe place for kids to learn and grow, and it would be a shame if that were to end.
Most of my fondest childhood memories were made at the YAC. I spent most summers of my childhood there, and it would be a shame for such a vital community treasure to be let go.
The YAC was one of the few places in my life where I felt I had a community I could always return to and visit and feel welcomed, and I think every child growing up in Santa Clara should have the chance to benefit from the YAC.
I still keep in touch with some of the people I met at the YAC 14 years ago. Save the YAC!
The Youth Activity Center aka YAC has been here for many years and serves the community with many programs for kids to enjoy. Most of the programs lean toward bettering today's youth. Location is key and is why many flock to these facilities. Easy access. If taken away, you are basically taking away the future of our youth. The YAC needs to stay!
The community at the “YAC” is a place that parents trust and send their children knowing they are in a safe space. The YAC staff is part of my family and has been for almost 20 years. My children now attend the Youth Activity Center, and my hope is that they will be able to continue to attend “Kids Rock” and “Summer Camps”. The community is dependent on the YAC and their wonderful staff!
My family has worked and participated in many of the programs and events the YAC/Teen Center has provided. Much of our programs have and still create a positive impact on our youth participants and the community of Santa Clara. Many of the comments you here today will prove how the YAC has created a safe and memorable place, which has shaped our lives today. Taking our facility away is a step closer to eliminating our programs entirely.
Ive been going to the YAC since I moved to Santa Clara from the Philippines. I’ve made so many friendships throughout my time as a YAC/ Teen Center participant. I’m currently part of the Recreation Staff there and I love giving back the same love and energy as my former leaders did back then. Removing the YAC/ Teen Center is definitely a slap in the face to the children and their families and everyone who loves this place
I attended the YAC programs and classes a youth in Santa Clara as did my daughters. The YAC has always been an integral part of our community for youth and adults! I am in support of keeping the YAC and it’s programs!
We love The YAC. My kids went there every summer. Don’t know what I would have done without it. Great facilities. Great staff. Great location. Easy to get to. I would hate to see Santa Clara kids miss out on this resource.
I worked at & attended the YAC for 16 years. A father of 2 now, I can't emphasis how beneficial the after school program is. It impacts many families' lives daily. That doesn't include additional programs, & events, or the bonds that are created among employees. I am fortunate enough to have been impacted by the leaders of my youth, & to have been one of them. If an agreement can't be made from a city in the heart of SV to foster future generations of youth, then clearly something is wrong.
Starting as a participant in the program to becoming a part of the staff, the YAC has molded me into the person I am today. Considering the constant changes in the world around us, it is SOOO important to provide a safe space for the youth in our community. Getting rid of the YAC would be such a disservice to our kids.
The YAC is a crucial part of the lives of many in Santa Clara. The YAC provides services for the youth including homework support, exercise opportunities, and community service events. Also, there are many opportunities for volunteering within the programs. Individuals may be leaders in training or participate in volunteering through the various events held by the YAC. Overall, it is crucial that the YAC remains available for the future generations to thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
As a Santa Clara native,I’ve had the tremendous opportunity to have experienced the YAC and Teen Centers as a participant, and also as a part of the the Recreation staff. The influence the “YAC family” and it’s programs on me has been immeasurable and has ultimately driven me towards a continued career in civil service. Now as a new parent, I’ve looked forward to my son also having the same opportunities and memories. A loss in these facilities would be a huge loss to our community.
The YAC supports families. This is especially true for the families with busy parents who work around the clock to provide for their young ones. The YAC provides active support for our youth. Turning our back on the YAC is turning our back on the future. Support the YAC.
The YAC and it's staff are an integral pillar of the community. As a Santa Clara resident, former LIT, and former recreation leader, I know first hand about the impact of YAC on the community. The programs and services provided to the residents by the YAC, Teen Center, and skate park are vital to the development of the city's youth. It provides a opportunity for young kids to learn and grow in a safe and stable environment. Working for the YAC and Teen Center shaped me into the person I am today
The YAC, and its staff, were instrumental and foundational in my upbringing. Starting as a 3y in YAC programs to being a 22Y employee. For almost 20 years, the YAC has been a second home for me. The programs and people of the YAC helped instill the positive and healthy values I have Today. The YAC is more than a building, its a family. No matter who you are, the staff, namely Gayle and Oba, treat everyone with love and care. The YAC is the responsible for shaping me into the person I am today.
As a former youth commission member, I am in support of the new agreement.

Great people and location. It would be sad to see this come to an end.
