4.E 22-225 Action on an Agreement Between the Santa Clara Unified School District and the City of Santa Clara Pertaining to the Operation, Maintenance and Improvement for Public Recreational Purposes of Buildings and Open Space Areas at Cabrillo Middle School
As a participant, I remember being in awe that the YAC provided great resources and activities to children of wide age ranges. The YAC is where I had the best childhood memories and ended up working there for about 6 years. I have met some of the best people who are still in my life today.
Growing up in Santa Clara the yac and teen center have always been an important place. It has helped so many families and has such a positive impact on the community. Please keep the program up and running!
The YAC and Teen Center have served as fundamental pillars within the Santa Clara community. Both have been a safe haven for kids throughout several generations.
Both buildings have served as vital resources to the development of our youth. Living my whole life in Santa Clara, I’ve seen more and more resources being ripped away from our youth, who in all, are the future we must invest in.
The financial-forward agenda the city has becomes more and more apparent. Please consider our youth!
The Santa Clara Youth Activity Center and Teen Center is a great and critical aspect to our community. The staff is outstanding and ensures there is a safe and nurturing afterschool environment that is crucial to the positive development of our children. Additionally the YAC provides outstanding extracurricular and summer programs that further enhances the community relationships and provides motivation for much needed physical activity for our kids. Please keep the program funded and running.
The YAC/Teen Center is a great program that needs to continue. Both of my kids went there and received help on homework, had a great time interacting with the YAC leaders and other students.
The Leaders and Staff were awesome, very respectful and worked with the kids keeping them safe and making sure they had a great time. As a working parent , I truly appreciated both the YAC and Teen Center.
YAC has always played an important role in my life. I have a lot of good memories and learned some life lessons. It was a secure place for me to be myself, a place where I could hang out with all of my friends. I would not be where I am now if it weren't for YAC and the role models who were like family.
The YAC and Teen Center was always a second home to me growing up in Santa Clara. Years later as a current employee I see firsthand the joy and positive influence it brings to these kids and community. It would be a travesty to take that away from them. Keep the YAC and programs alive!
The YAC has been around ever since I was a kid. It's a place for kids to interact
with friends and socialize with one another. It has offered programs and services that benefited the community throughout the years. I can't imagine it being gone. Please keep the program running!
The Santa Clara Youth Activity Center has fostered strong connections and belonging in our neighborhood. When we moved to Santa Clara ten years ago, the center provided invaluable support and activities for our kids and family. Without the YAC, we would lack a safe environment for our children, we would lose a place for our youth to extend their learning beyond the classroom, and so much more.
So many of my primary life skills have had formative moments at the YAC/Teen Center, from teamwork in youth basketball to leadership skills I learned planning events at the Teen Center. The City staff, including Rich, Gayle, and Jon, puts tireless energy into providing these quality programs to students, accessible to all. This is a win-win partnership. I felt supported as a resident and a student when I found my second home at the YAC/Teen Center. Please support the new agreement.
As a Wilcox alumnus from 2009, the YAC/Teen Center provided a safe and reliable spot for myself and classmates after-school. I believe the facilities should continue to be used to provide events, camps, and after-school activities for the community.
Growing up as a regular participant of the Teen Center and YAC, the place becomes like a second home and the staff are family. Immediately after graduating high school I was hired and worked at these facilities for 13 years. I know first hand how important these places are for the development and support of the youth in our city. Every year there are countless new and returning kids who look forward to the positive interactions and support from the staff. It would be a true tragedy to let it go.
The YAC has always been a safe and fun place for the youth to attend. I worked at the YAC for 6 years and met a lot of incredible people. Personally, I can tell you the positive impacts that the YAC has on the youth. I support the YAC and please let the YAC continue to run it's programs!
The YAC is a staple in the community. It is a safe place for kids to go to after school where they have supervision and help with homework. The YAC provides several activities and help children gain valuable friendships and teaches them good sportsmanship. We are lucky to have a place like this where are children can go while we are at work and know that they are safe and well cared for. The community will not be the same with out our youth activity center.
The Santa Clara Youth Activity Center and the Teen Center is a staple in the community. It is now being stripped away by the Santa Clara Unified School District. The City of Santa Clara has provided a safe space for the kids after school, events for families, sports camps during the summer, and programming for all-ages in the community for years. We are an inclusive and diverse city and to not have the Youth Activity Center or Teen Center be available would be a shame. Do better and support.
I was a Santa Clara Youth Commissioner from 2012-2016, and the Teen Center/YAC has been such an important part of my life. They provide fun, creative, and enriching programs for teens of all backgrounds, a safe place to be after school, and an irreplaceable sense of belonging at such a crucial time in young adults' lives. I am so grateful for the staff’s passion and dedication throughout the years and truly hope this resource continues on for many teens to come.
Wtf we gotta vote for this? This programs help kids with their developmental processes and taking this away is plain stupid. Part of human development is interacting with others and playing with others. Many parents bring their kids to places like for social interacting and support from the school district.
The need to feel secure and stable at home is important to everyone, but children especially. Having a place like the YAC where they are socially, physically and emotionally secure is essential for healthy development.

Please don’t take this away from the kids!

I don’t understand why this would even be something that is being taken away. This place has helped the community in so many different ways

How can we be considered one of the greatest city’s in the world if this is even a topic of conversation.
The skills and development the youngsters get at these centers help create an umbrella of growth of success for not only themselves but our community.
