11. 22-1256 Action on a Written Petition (030) Related to the Possibility of Acquiring 1601 Civic Center Drive for the Purpose of Establishing a City Park
Our community needs a park since we have to walk 10 minutes to the closest Fremont park across El Camino Real to walk and enjoy nature. Considering new Warburton Avenue townhomes, which will become available in late fall, we'll have an increasing demand in public areas, children's playgrounds, and sports corners. The neighborhood is already well-packed, and another high-density building will make a huge negative impact on residents regardless of whether it is affordable housing project or not.
There have been no new parks in the last 30 years relative to the amount of growth that we have incurred in our area. PLEASE support the development of this park and beautify our neighborhood rather than cram more people into it!
I strongly support building a park. Currently, a lot of residents drive down to other cities such as Sunnyvale and Mountain view to use parks for our kids. We need this park so the community can come together to use the park resources for learning, exercising, and address numerous community building incentives. If we keep building housing without parks, our city will be less attractive to future family residents and act as a catalyst for families to move to better planned cities.
I support for a new park! The population in the neighborhood has grown rapidly in the past ten years but we don't have enough amenities to accommodate this population growth! A new park will greatly help us to unite with our family and neighbors.
I support the request to build a part instead of the high density housing. We need Santa Clara to be kept safe and clean and not fear what standard of individuals that will be moving into our safe community.
Born & raised 40 yr resident I have seen housing in the Civic Center area grow since the 80s w/ no new parks or amenities added to balance these developments. Future growth from the El Camino Real Corridor & potential high density housing in the area will exacerbate the issue. Focusing on long term community growth this is our chance to utilize this space to serve as a Community Hub given lack of parks for current 1.2 acres per 1,000 residents vs City’s current park standard is 2.6 - 3.0 acres
Request to build a park, instead of the high density apartment. The neighborhood designated Scott Lane Elementary is rated as “below average” for both academic test scores and equity. The school has about 77% of low income students. The apartment will add 30
students or increase 7.4% enrollment to the school being all low-income - bringing the school to have almost 85% low income students.
This will drive away existing and potential middle/high income family away, deteriorating the local economy

I strongly support a neighborhood park at 1601 Civic Center. Our neighborhood already has overly dense housing without adequate green areas for young families. My family and I tried to visit Civic Center Park several times to find homeless people living on the sidewalk of Housing Community Services and other individuals smoking on the benches. Not to mention the close proximity to a highly transited street such as El Camino Real makes it not a viable place for kids to be running.
I believe that city parks are important public infrastructures that can unitet us as Santa Clara city residents. It creates a public space for residents to take a rest and spend time with their families (kids, parents, etc), friends and neighbors. With good amentities, it could also attract people who loves sport and / or natural views.
Strongly support the idea to bring a new park to the neighborhood. It will benefit not only residents, seniors, and children who have been living here for a while, but also be great for young couples who recently moved to this area where they settle down and start to build families. In our community, there are already 5 newborns this year and there's going to be more for sure in near future. We residents of this area are in need of more parks for children to play safely and healthily grow up.
The Warburton area is a prime location to place a park that could accommodate seniors and residents in the area. Within the Walberton/Civic Center neighborhood, they were mini multi unit apartments that has low income children. Having a local park will allow children to learn and play and senior citizens to meet and socialize in an environment that is close to their residence. A mixed used park would provide a positive influence on not only the neighborhood but the environment.
We need a green park with playground for kids, need a lawns and trees for picnics and walking. We have only roads and industrial areas, but we don’t have a good park. It’s so heavy to get places with green nature in Santa Clara. Please help us to improve our neighborhood.
City has been approving housing projects left & right in this neighborhood for over a decade but have ignored things like how to make communities stronger, where children are going to play etc. E.g. Existing rotary park does NOT even meet the needs of immediate apartment buildings. Park here will be beneficial to everyone, it will provide much needed open space, community development opportunities, play area etc. City should provide right mix of housing & open space to have healthy communities.
There has been tremendous increase in housing and population
in the neighborhood, but the city has not increased any parks or public space in at least 20 years here. This is a perfect use of this spot, will massively increase quality of life in the neighborhood and is what is demanded by residents rather than a housing project that poorly addresses the needs of the residents and does not fit this specific location.
The area is already crowd. Having a park will not only balance the population density, but also provide an area for people to social around and relax instead.
There has not been any development for parks in this neighborhood for decades now, this is a ideal location since it’s close to the museum and addresses many concerns of proper development of the neighborhood that residents have
Great idea to build a new park in this neighborhood. I have lived here and known numerous residents who would actually benefit from this. Think about the positive impact that the park will bring to peoples life, to attractiveness of the city, to sustainable future of the area. Strongly support the idea to build the park. Thank you.

Please give us a green park, we suffocate from roads and cars.
